Iranian Diplomat Lauds Tehran-Kabul Growing Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The relations between Iran and Afghanistan are growing well based on mutual respect, Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Iranian Expatriates and Parliamentary Affairs Hassan Qashqavi said on Tuesday.

Qashqavi, who is on a visit to Kabul to launch the first electronic visa issuing system for Afghan applicants, voiced satisfaction with the current level of relations between the two nations in political, economic, and cultural areas.

He also emphasized that Iran is keen to promote bilateral ties with the neighboring Afghanistan.

Afghanistan shares a long and intertwined history with Iran. The two countries also have a shared language and similar cultures and enjoy friendly and brotherly relations.

Also, Iran has for decades hosted millions of refugees from Afghanistan, though it has received little international support.

Trade between the two nations has increased dramatically since the overthrow of the Taliban government in late 2001. Iran and Afghanistan plan on building a new railroad connecting Mashhad to Herat.
