According to a report by the public relations department of the Navy, the fleet of warships is on a mission to ensure security for the traffic of Iranian shipping lines in the region and protect the Islamic Republic's interests in high seas.

The warships have departed for the Gulf of Aden and the Bab-el-Mandeb, a strait between the Arabian Peninsula and the Horn of Africa.

Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said the mission will last for about three months.

Meanwhile the Navy's 33rd flotilla comprising Martyr Naqdi destroyer and Bandar Abbas logistic warship docked at the southern port city of Bandar Abbas on Tuesday after completing its 80-day mission.

Since November 2008, the Iranian navy has conducted anti-piracy missions in the Gulf of Aden and Bab el-Mandeb Strait to protect the country's vessels against pirate attacks.
