Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Saturday, Alireza Zakani pointed to an earlier request by the Iranian parliament’s commission from the foreign ministry to invite Amano to the parliament, and said the UN nuclear chief will attend a session of the commission tomorrow.
“As announced by the foreign ministry to parliament’s Special Commission for Reviewing the JCPOA, Amano is scheduled to attend the commission session at 2 pm (local time),” Zakani said.
In his letter to Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is also Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator, on Wednesday, Zakani had asked for the foreign ministry’s official invitation to Yukiya Amano.
Iran and the IAEA on July 14 signed a roadmap agreement in the Austrian capital of Vienna to resolve all the past and present outstanding issues related to Tehran’s nuclear energy program.
On the same day, Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) also finalized the text of the JCPOA, a lasting deal that would end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran’s nuclear program.
The IAEA has been given the role of verifying Iran’s commitments under the deal.
According the JCPOA, “The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will be requested to monitor and verify the voluntary nuclear-related measures as detailed in this JCPOA. The IAEA will be requested to provide regular updates to the Board of Governors, and as provided for in this JCPOA, to the UN Security Council. All relevant rules and regulations of the IAEA with regard to the protection of information will be fully observed by all parties involved.”
