Syrian Army Repels Terrorist Attack in Quneitra, Kills Dozens

DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – The Syrian army on Sunday repelled an attack by Israeli-backed Takfiri militants in Quneitra province, 70 km (40 miles) southwest of Damascus, leaving large groups of them dead and injured, a Syrian journalist present on the battlefield said.

Ma’az Saeed told Tasnim dispatches on Sunday that the army troops clashed with Israeli-backed militias in suburbs of Quneitra and managed to push them back after they attempted to infiltrate into the area and seize control of two heights.

Nearly 30 militants were killed in an ambush attack in al-Doha district during the clashes as the Syrian forces were highly prepared to address and confront such threats, he added.

Saeed further said that one vehicle equipped with a heavy machine gun and three canons belonging to the militants were also destroyed in the operation.

Syria has been entangled in civil war since March 2011, with Takfiri terrorist groups like Daesh (ISIL) controlling parts of it, mostly in the east.

In the past five years, more than 260,000 people have died in Syria - overwhelmingly civilians - and around 4 million Syrians are now refugees in other countries. Around 8 million others have been displaced internally.
