Iran's Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi, who is in Ankara for a session of Iran-Turkey Economic Cooperation Joint Commission, held a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Thursday.

Highlighting Turkey’s position as a significant neighbor, Vaezi said Iran has the potential to fulfill the needs of Turkey for energy and other products.

He also proposed the idea of joint investment and establishment of joint industries to produce goods for use in Iran and Turkey’s markets and for exports.

Vaezi then emphasized the need for closer cooperation in banking, transportation and tourism.

For his part, the Turkish prime minister voiced his country’s readiness to work with Iran on joint investment in the tourism industry.

During his stay in Turkey, the Iranian minister has held meetings with Turkish minister of customs and trade, Minister of Development Cevdet Yilmaz and with Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Earlier in March, the Turkish premier paid a visit to Iran to weigh plans for a boost to Tehran-Ankara relations.

In a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Davutoglu had also voiced Ankara’s preparedness to cooperate with Tehran in the fight against terrorism.
