Iranian VP, Turkish PM Discuss Regional Issues, Aleppo

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri and Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim exchanged views about various issues, ranging from Tehran-Ankara relations to the latest developments in the Middle East region, particularly in Syria.

In a telephone conversation on Friday, Jahangiri offered his condolences to the Turkish people and government over victims in a recent terrorist attack in Istanbul that led to the killing and injuring of dozens of people.

“Peace, stability and security of Turkey is highly important to the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said, calling for closer cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

At least 29 people, including 27 police officers, were killed last week in two separate bomb attacks in the Besiktas district of Istanbul.

Jahangiri further pointed to the appalling conditions of Syrian civilians in various cities, including Aleppo, and said unfortunately, civilians are being killed and injured in various cities of the Arab country.

The Turkish premier, for his part, expressed concern over the situation of civilians in Aleppo and said Tehran’s influence and assistance can play a major role in resolving the problems of civilians.

The remarks came as terrorists shelled a corridor used by the Syrian government to evacuate civilians from eastern Aleppo in the Ramuse district, according to a Syrian state-run TV. Syrian army was sent to the area.

Moreover, the evacuation of militants and their families from east Aleppo has been suspended as they violated an agreement with the Syrian government by trying to take hostages with them.
