Yemen Army Repels Militant Attack, Kills over 20 in Border Region

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemeni troops and fighters from Popular Committees repelled a major attack by militants in an area near Jizan, managing to kill over 20 Saudi soldiers and mercenaries in the border region.

At least 20 Saudi soldiers and mercenaries were killed on Wednesday when the army foiled their infiltration in Jabal Qais Mountain, military sources said, Saba news agency reported.

The troops and militants suffered major losses in the counterattack, the report said.

Yemen’s defenseless people have been under massive attacks by the coalition for more than two years but Riyadh has reached none of its objectives in Yemen so far.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Over 15,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
