TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed confidence in his country and Iran’s potential to reach their previously set $30 billion annual trade target.

He conveyed this sentiment during a meeting with Iran's new Ambassador to Ankara, Mohammad Hassan Habibollahzadeh, who presented his credentials to the Turkish president.

Erdogan highlighted the ample opportunities for enhancing cooperation between the two nations, especially in the areas of trade and economy. In 2018, Iran and Turkey had agreed to boost economic collaboration to achieve the $30 billion trade milestone.

The Turkish president also stressed the importance of joint efforts in combating terrorism and Islamophobia, while fostering unity in the Muslim world.

He extended an invitation to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to visit Turkey, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is scheduled to travel to Tehran soon.

In response, the Iranian ambassador expressed commitment to ongoing discussions on various bilateral, regional, and international political developments. He praised the shared stance of Iran, Turkey, and other Muslim countries regarding the recent desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden and Denmark, acts that were perpetrated under the auspices of the respective governments of those countries.
