In a meeting with Prime Minister of Belarus Alexander Genrikhovich Turchin on the sidelines of the SCO prime ministers’ summit in Russia on Tuesday, Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref said the two countries should work to elevate cooperation in all areas to match the level of political ties.
He emphasized the importance of closer relations in multiple sectors, especially the economic field, noting that the recent visit by Iran’s president to Minsk created a new atmosphere and marked a turning point in comprehensive bilateral cooperation.
He noted that strengthening cooperation benefits not only the two countries but also the broader region, given their active roles in organizations such as the Eurasian Economic Union and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Aref added that Tehran approves joint investment and production initiatives, expressing the view that the two economies can complement each other and meet mutual needs.
For his part, the Belarusian prime minister said his country considers Iran a friendly and close nation and that bilateral relations are developing.
Referring to the recent visit of Iran’s president to Belarus, he expressed confidence that the agreements reached during that trip would stimulate further progress in bilateral ties.
He added that the presence of both countries in the SCO contributes to strengthening bilateral interactions and said that implementing the Iran–Eurasia free trade agreement serves the interests of both sides.
Turchin also highlighted Belarus’ interest in expanding bilateral ties, undertaking joint projects, investment initiatives, joint production, and enhancing cultural and educational cooperation with Iran.
